Eisenhower Park: The American Punjabi Society (APS), in collaboration with the APS Women’s Council and Blood Cancer Specialists, hosted a successful 5K Cancer Awareness Walk on October 13, 2024.

With over 300 participants, the event highlighted the importance of cancer awareness, prevention, and the role of the community in promoting fitness and health.

Led by Gurmohan Syali, Chief Medical Officer of Blood Cancer Specialists, and other notable doctors, the event featured various activities such as raffles, arts and crafts, and free health consultations.

Local businesses contributed by providing a hot breakfast, while vendors promoted organ donation and blood donation awareness—both crucial aspects of cancer care.

The presence of APS President Gary Sikka and Executive Vice President Mohinder S. Taneja, along with strong support from the APS Women’s Council, ensured the event’s success.

The day began with the Pledge of Allegiance led by young volunteers, representing the involvement of the next generation in health initiatives.

Nassau County Police provided security, ensuring the event was safe for all attendees.

The walk was not just about fitness but also about hope and commitment to the fight against cancer.

Gurmohan Syali remarked, “It’s inspiring to see so many people come together for a cause that affects so many lives. This walk is a testament to the strength of community action in raising awareness and promoting health.”

This event highlights the significance of community-driven efforts in addressing public health issues, proving that collective action can make a substantial impact on cancer awareness and prevention.
