Sai Surya Avinash Gadde, originally from Chityala in the East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, died on July 7 at Barberville Falls. The Consulate General of India in New York confirmed the news, expressing deep sorrow over the tragic loss. Gadde was a student at Trine University in Indiana, having enrolled for the 2023-24 session.

 

On the day of the incident, Gadde was visiting a friend's house with his elder sister's family. They decided to visit the nearby waterfalls, where Gadde accidentally fell and drowned. This tragedy is part of a troubling trend, with over half a dozen Indian students and others losing their lives in the U.S. in 2024.

 

In a separate incident last month, 32-year-old Dasari Gopikrishna was fatally shot during a robbery at a convenience store in Pleasant Grove, Dallas. The Consulate General of India in New York has since developed a special platform to support Indian students studying in the U.S.
