Long Island, NY: On Saturday, June 29, 2024, the streets of Hicksville in Long Island, New York, were filled with jubilation and pride as Indian Americans came together to celebrate India’s T20 World Cup victory. Cricket enthusiasts organized a vibrant car rally to show their support and joy for India’s triumph in Barbados.

 

The celebration was not just about a cricket win; it was a demonstration of the strong sense of community and cultural pride among Indian Americans in New York.

This rally showcased the unity and enthusiasm of the Indian diaspora, highlighting their connection to their roots and the joy of shared victories.

The rally began at the India Association of Long Island (IALI) Center in Hicksville, with a procession of cars decorated with Indian flags. The route included landmarks like Patel Brothers, Maharaja, and Apna Bazar, before returning to the IALI Center.

Enthusiastic participants cheered and chanted slogans like “Bharat Mata ki Jai” and “Vande Mataram,” creating an atmosphere of national pride and excitement.

 

Filmmaker Mukesh Modi, along with community leaders Nitin Khurana, Kishore Malik, Indu Jaiswal, Shashi Goyal, Tony Kejriwal, Beena Sabapathy, Prafulba Vaghela, Neeru Bhambri, and Surin Manaktala, played key roles in organizing the event.

Within an hour of India’s victory, these activists rallied the community, showcasing their dedication and passion for the game.

 

Rajesh Kumar of Bengali Sweets added a delicious touch to the festivities by distributing hot jalebis to all the participants, making the celebration even sweeter.

 

“We were thrilled to celebrate our team’s victory and show our support from miles away. It was a proud moment for all of us,” said Mukesh Modi.
