Irving, TX: The New York Times has once again spotlighted Texas' diverse food scene in its annual list of the 50 best restaurants in America for 2023.
Among the notable inclusions are both new and established eateries that represent the state's rich culinary traditions, from Southern and barbecue to Indian fusion.
A standout this year is Simply South, a restaurant in Irving, which has quickly captured attention since opening in February.
Led by three chefs from southern India, the restaurant has become a favorite for its authentic and home-style Indian dishes.
Its signature dish, the gunturu thatte idli, a flat rice cake soaked in ghee and podi, reflects the rich culinary traditions of Andhra Pradesh.
Other Texas establishments that made the prestigious list include Barbs B Q in Lockhart, renowned for its unique brisket, and Viola and Agnes’ Neo Soul Food near Houston, which offers a soulful mix of Southern flavors.
This year’s selections highlight the growing reputation of Texas as a culinary destination, bringing together both traditional and innovative cooking.
