Additional Details:

Kaleidoscope Park is a new six-acre park in Frisco, set to open in October. The park includes various amenities such as a dog park, splash pad, performance lawn, children’s play area, outdoor workspaces, and gardens. The highlight of the park is the "Butterfly Rest Stop" sculpture by Janet Echelman.

The sculpture stretches 165 feet above a section of the park, with the final pieces secured 65 feet off the ground. Designed to look like milkweed flowers, which are crucial for monarch butterflies, this art piece emphasizes the importance of butterfly migration. Milkweed will be planted in the park to support this cause.

Made of nearly 90 miles of NASA-grade fibers, the sculpture includes:

  • 791,788 knots tied by hand and loom
  • 88.9 miles of twine
  • Weighs 3,423 lbs
  • Measures 133 feet long, 165 feet including rope structures
  • Reaches 65 feet at its highest point
  • Can withstand winds up to 106 mph

Due to weather exposure, the sculpture will be replaced every five years. Kaleidoscope Park is part of a large redevelopment project that began in the fall of 2021.

“The most exciting thing is opening the park,” said Shawn Jackson, Executive Director of the Kaleidoscope Park Foundation. “It’s brand new—Frisco’s been looking forward to it for two years.”

“Craig Hall has always been passionate about art, which aligns with the City of Frisco’s commitment to our public art program,” said Mayor Jeff Cheney. “We’re excited to be home to 'Butterfly Rest Stop'.”

Kaleidoscope Park's grand opening this fall will feature Janet Echelman's "Butterfly Rest Stop," creating a vibrant new space in Frisco. This remarkable art installation will enhance the community, attracting both residents and visitors to enjoy the park's diverse offerings.
