Historic Milestone: AAPI Becomes Partner Member of IAMRA

Washington, D.C.— The American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI) has achieved a significant milestone by becoming a Partner Member of the International Association of Medical Regulatory Authorities (IAMRA). This membership, announced on May 27, 2025, integrates AAPI into a global network dedicated to promoting effective medical regulation and ensuring public safety through collaboration and shared best practices.

By joining IAMRA, AAPI gains a platform to contribute to international discussions on medical regulation, advocate for policy harmonization, and support mutual recognition of medical qualifications. 

Dr. Satheesh Kathula, President of AAPI, emphasized the significance of this development, stating,

"This achievement reaffirms AAPI’s commitment to collaborating with international medical regulatory authorities; bridging professional gaps between Indian and global healthcare systems; building stronger platforms for Indian-origin physicians; and advocating for policy harmonization and mutual recognition of qualifications." 

 

Dr. Lokesh Edara, past Chairman of the AAPI Board of Trustees, played a pivotal role in this endeavor. He highlighted AAPI's ongoing collaboration with the Government of India, aiming to enhance the global competitiveness of Indian medical graduates through various programs and activities. Dr. Edara expressed optimism about working closely with IAMRA and its members to ensure that the voices of Indian-origin physicians are heard and respected worldwide. 

AAPI's inclusion in IAMRA not only elevates the organization's international standing but also provides a conduit for Indian-American physicians to influence global medical regulatory policies. This partnership is expected to facilitate the exchange of knowledge, promote best practices, and support initiatives aimed at improving healthcare quality and patient safety globally.
