Chicago, IL— U.S. Representative Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-Ill.) has launched the "Mayors for Raja" coalition, garnering endorsements from nearly two dozen current and former mayors across Illinois.

This initiative bolsters his campaign to succeed retiring Senator Dick Durbin, highlighting his widespread support among local leaders.

  • The "Mayors for Raja" coalition includes approximately 20 mayors from various regions of Illinois, including Schaumburg, West Peoria, Oak Brook, and Moline.

The formation of "Mayors for Raja" underscores Krishnamoorthi's appeal across Illinois.

Mayor Sangeetha Rayapati of Moline stated, "With roots downstate and a clear track record of delivering for Illinois, he’s the kind of fighter that Moline needs."

Krishnamoorthi's campaign emphasizes his commitment to representing all Illinoisans.

"Local leaders know their communities better than anyone, and I have been proud to fight on behalf of these mayors and their communities throughout my time in Congress," he remarked. 

The endorsements from a diverse group of mayors reflect Krishnamoorthi's ability to build broad coalitions, a crucial factor in a statewide race.

His campaign's momentum is further evidenced by his substantial fundraising efforts, having raised $1 million within two weeks of announcing his candidacy. 

Raja Krishnamoorthi's growing support from local leaders positions him as a formidable candidate in the upcoming Senate race.

As the Democratic primary approaches, his ability to unite various constituencies will be pivotal in securing the nomination and potentially making history as the first Indian-born U.S. Senator.
