Miamisburg, Ohio: Ohio’s only Indian American State Senator, Niraj Antani, is set to conclude his term on December 31, 2024, marking the end of a decade-long journey in the Ohio General Assembly.
Antani, who made history as Ohio’s first Indian and Hindu American State Senator, served as the youngest member in both the House and Senate during his tenure.
At just 23, Antani began his political career in 2014 as a State Representative. Rising through the ranks, he was elected State Senator in 2020.
Antani’s tenure is marked by significant legislative achievements.
He championed funding increases for community colleges like Sinclair Community College, secured tax exemptions that saved Miamisburg Mound business park, and facilitated millions in funding for regional institutions such as Dayton Art Institute.
His landmark legislation granting college athletes name, image, and likeness (NIL) rights transformed lives nationwide, while his efforts on public record laws for police-worn body cameras enhanced transparency and accountability.
In his farewell announcement, he reflected on his journey, stating, “It has been the privilege of my life to serve the community in which I was born and raised… I have worked hard every day over the last decade to give every Ohioan the ability to achieve their American Dream.”
After an unsuccessful run for Congress in 2024, Antani is preparing for his next steps, yet to be disclosed.
He expressed gratitude to his constituents for their trust across four competitive races, reaffirming his commitment to public service and shared values.
