New York City, USA.: Indian parliamentarians and diaspora leaders convened at the Indian Consulate in New York City to discuss preventive healthcare strategies aimed at combating cancer and cardiovascular diseases.

Organized by the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI), the event underscored the critical role of Indian-American physicians in advancing healthcare and fostering collaboration between India and the US.

Dr. Satheesh Kathula, AAPI President, emphasized the urgency of preventive strategies, highlighting lifestyle changes, early detection, and culturally sensitive healthcare approaches to address genetic and lifestyle-related health challenges in the Indian community.

“The need for preventing cancer and heart attacks through lifestyle modifications and technology is more than ever,” Dr. Kathula remarked, stressing the significance of collaborative efforts.

The delegation included prominent Indian parliamentarians like Birendra Prasad Baishya and Tejasvi Surya, who engaged with Indian-American medical professionals and community leaders.

Consul General Binaya S. Pradhan welcomed the group, introducing initiatives like the Bharat Ko Janiye campaign and the upcoming Pravasi Bharatiya Divas.

AAPI’s legacy since 1982 in influencing healthcare systems and policies was celebrated, with Dr. Kathula noting their instrumental role in fostering bilateral ties.

The event also spotlighted achievements in technology and education, with attendees like Edison Mayor Sam Joshi and Dr. Samin K. Sharma contributing perspectives on enhancing Indo-US relations.

“This platform offers hope for greater collaboration in healthcare, education, and cultural exchange,” Dr. Kathula concluded, envisioning a robust partnership between the two nations to tackle global health challenges
