Edison, New Jersey: The Global Organization of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO) North Jersey chapter, in collaboration with the Indian Consulate in New York and local community organizations, inaugurated the ‘India Collection of Books’ at the Parsippany Library in New Jersey on September 29.

The initiative, supported by groups like Parsippany Rotary International and Heart and Hand for Handicapped, aims to showcase India's rich literary heritage and promote cultural understanding.

The event began with the Indian Consul for Visa and Community Affairs, Pragya Singh, expressing the Consulate’s dedication to strengthening ties with local Indian organizations.

The collection features a diverse range of books, including rare classics and contemporary titles, many of which were donated by the Indian Consulate and community members.

Library President Melisa Kuzma expressed gratitude for the donation and announced plans for a Diwali celebration in October to further engage the community.

During the ceremony, Mayor Barberio highlighted the significant contributions of Indian Americans in Parsippany and commended the positive reception of the new initiative.

GOPIO International Chairman Thomas Abraham shared that similar book collections have been launched at libraries across Norwalk, Stamford, Edison, Queens, and Long Island.

New Jersey Commissioner Upendra Chivukula encouraged the Indian American community to actively participate in local governance for increased representation.

Former Telangana Minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah shared his personal journey, reflecting on how he went from working in a library as a child to donating his autobiography to the Parsippany Library.

The India Collection at Parsippany Library marks an important step in fostering cross-cultural connections and providing the community with access to India’s vast literary wealth.
