New York, NY – The Indian adaptation of The Night Manager, featuring Anil Kapoor, Aditya Roy Kapoor, Sobhita Dhulipala, and Tillotama Shome, has earned a nomination in the drama series category at the 2024 International Emmy Awards. The show is India’s sole representative across all 14 categories of nominations this year.
Key Facts:
- The Night Manager India is the only Indian entry at the 2024 International Emmy Awards, nominated in the drama series category.
- The series stars Anil Kapoor, Aditya Roy Kapoor, and Tillotama Shome, among others.
- The International Emmy Awards will be held on November 25 in New York, with Vir Das hosting the event.
The news of the nomination has thrilled the cast and crew, with co-director Sandeep Modi breaking the exciting update on their WhatsApp group named “the cool kids.”
Tillotama Shome, who plays R&AW agent Lipika Saikia Rao, fondly recalls the moment, saying, “We felt very cool and were jumping like kids.”
Shome’s character, adapted from Olivia Colman’s role in the original series, resonated deeply with her, as she admired Lipika’s daring nature and her ability to navigate patriarchal power structures with both humor and impudence.
“She’s not very diplomatic and hates delays caused by bureaucratic hoops,” Shome shared, highlighting how her character breaks the mold of women in action roles.
Shome, who grew up in Bengaluru, is looking forward to celebrating the achievement with the team. “There will be a reunion, courtesy of the generous Anil Kapoor,” she revealed, noting that Kapoor often hosts such celebrations for key milestones of the project.
The Indian Night Manager will compete against international dramas like The Newsreader Season 2 from Australia, Les Gouttes de Dieu (Drops of God) from France, and Argentina’s Iosi, El Espia Arrepentido (Yosi, the Regretful Spy) Season 2.
The series is based on John le Carré’s novel and the British show, which featured Tom Hiddleston, Hugh Laurie, and Olivia Colman.
The International Emmy Awards will take place in New York on November 25, and Indian comedian Vir Das will host the event.
Tillotama Shome expressed her excitement about possibly attending, reminiscing about her time as a student in the U.S. and looking forward to returning under such significant circumstances.
