In an extraordinary feat, Indian-American couple Harpreet Singh Cheema and Navneet Kaur Cheema have climbed Mount Everest, becoming the first Sikh couple to achieve this milestone. Their journey from marathons to the highest peak in the world showcases their adventurous spirit and determination.

In America, many Indian-origin couples start their day with a quick breakfast and head into the daily grind. But not Harpreet Singh Cheema and Navneet Kaur Cheema. Their mornings begin with discussions about their next big adventure, whether it’s a marathon or a mountain bike ride.

This adventurous spirit led them to the summit of Mount Everest on May 23, 2024, making them the first American couple of Indian origin and the first Sikh couple to achieve this incredible feat.

Their journey began 15 years ago with marathons and mountain biking. Over the years, they took on numerous challenges together, including climbing Africa’s highest peak, Mt Kilimanjaro, in 2019, and Europe’s highest peak, Mt Elbrus, in 2022.

In early 2023, they tackled two of the world's highest peaks back-to-back: Mt Aconcagua in Argentina and Alaska’s Mt Denali.

At the summit of Everest, they offered prayers to Guru Nanak Dev, reciting the aarti "Gagan main thaal." Despite the challenges, including witnessing the tragic death of a fellow climber, they persevered. Harpreet, vice president of strategy at Trinity Health, credits Navneet for saving his life during their Denali climb when he fell into a crevasse.
