WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has appointed Indian American Sivaram Ghorakavi as the new Deputy Chief Information Officer, effective today, June 3. This key Senior Executive Service (SES) position also includes the role of Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer.

 

Sivaram Ghorakavi, an accomplished IT professional, has been named the new Deputy Chief Information Officer at the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). This pivotal Senior Executive Service (SES) managerial position also entrusts him with the role of Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer.

 

In his new role, Ghorakavi will oversee daily IT operations and provide strategic leadership for technology projects and partnerships. EEOC Chair Charlotte A. Burrows expressed confidence in Ghorakavi’s abilities, highlighting his experience in leading digital transformation and integrating emerging technologies to enhance both internal processes and law enforcement efforts.

 

Ghorakavi emphasized the importance of his role, stating that the deputy chief information officer must drive digital transformation and automation in line with the EEOC’s mission of ensuring equal employment opportunity. He also noted that understanding the benefits and risks of using technology, including AI, is crucial for the success of this role.

 

Ghorakavi brings 15 years of federal government IT experience, having served as chief architect and chief data strategist at the National Labor Relations Board and as an IT portfolio manager at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
