Atlanta, GA, October 23, 2024: Three talented students from Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) have been selected for the 2024-25 Teen Team at the High Museum of Art, marking a significant opportunity for young artists to connect with the local art scene.

Sharika Awasthi of the Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science, and Technology, Ivan Thomas from Collins Hill High School, and Milena Woldai from Peachtree Ridge High School will join 12 other high school juniors and seniors in this highly competitive program.

The Teen Team offers a unique experience, beginning with an eight-week summer intensive and continuing with monthly meetings throughout the school year.

Participants gain behind-the-scenes access to the museum, assist in organizing public events like Teen Night, and explore career paths in the arts.

The initiative aims to engage youth with art, culture, and community outreach, while also providing valuable skills for future endeavors.

GCPS Director of Fine Arts David DuBose remarked on the program's impact, saying, “This kind of opportunity helps students connect with their community in meaningful ways while developing valuable skills.”

Teen Team members work closely with museum staff and arts professionals, and many alumni have gone on to secure scholarships, internships, and roles in the art world.

The selection of these students reflects the community's investment in arts education and provides a platform for young people to grow both artistically and professionally.

This program not only supports individual development but also strengthens the cultural fabric of the local community.
