Schaumburg, IL – : Schaumburg is now home to the world’s largest Indian community center, the National India Hub, which opened on June 15. This new center offers a wide range of services and activities for the Indian community in Greater Chicago.
 

Key Highlights:

  • Inauguration Event: The opening event featured Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, Consul General Somnath Ghosh, and Ambassador Dr. Ausaf Sayeed.
  • Large Facility: The center spans 110,000 square feet and includes over 60 service organizations.
  • Health and Support Services: Services include healthcare, mental health support, aid for abuse survivors, and free CPR training.
  • Community Programs: Educational programs for children, skill development for adults, cultural activities, and recreational facilities for all ages.
  • Volunteer Effort: Over 590 volunteers, including 340 students, contribute to the center’s operations.

 

Notable Features:

  • Health Initiatives: Led by Dr. Vemuri Murthy, the center offers CPR training and health screenings.
  • Recreational Activities: Facilities include carrom boards, table tennis, chess, and billiards.
  • Future Plans: The center aims to install the world’s largest permanent Indian flag outside India and is seeking a Guinness World Record for the most service organizations under one roof.

 

Harish Kolasani, the center’s founder, emphasized the community’s role in making the center a reality, highlighting that no government or private donations were accepted. The center aims to be a model of community service and engagement in the U.S.
