Chicago, IL— In a heartfelt initiative blending cultural pride with social responsibility, the Golden Girls of Chicago officially launched on May 12, 2025. Founded by Mina Purohit, a prominent TV host and Gujarati film producer, the group aims to empower women and honor elderly mothers in India through its signature program, "Maa Tujhe Salaam."

  • Membership: Nearly 50 accomplished women joined at inception. 

  • Mission: Empower women and support senior, single, and underprivileged mothers in India. 

 

The group's mission, "Spreading happiness and being helpful to each other," reflects its commitment to community service and women's empowerment. Through "Maa Tujhe Salaam," members will make annual voluntary contributions to assist elderly mothers in India facing financial hardships. 

"We recognize the strength of women, and we deeply cherish both America and our beloved Motherland, India," Purohit stated. "This platform is not just about enjoying life together but also about creating meaningful impact—especially for women in need." 

Beyond philanthropy, the Golden Girls of Chicago plan monthly gatherings celebrating American and Indian cultural festivals, fostering joy and strengthening bonds among members. 

The launch of this group highlights the Indian diaspora's dedication to giving back to their roots while building supportive communities abroad. By addressing the needs of elderly women in India, the Golden Girls of Chicago exemplify cross-cultural solidarity and compassion.
