Chicago, USA: The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur) recently held a successful event in Chicago as part of its ‘IIT Karvaan’ initiative.

This global outreach effort aims to reconnect the institute with its extensive alumni network.

The Chicago event, which followed similar gatherings in New York and Washington D.C., attracted around 80 alumni who came together to celebrate their shared heritage and discuss future collaborations.

In attendance was Somnath Ghosh, the Consul General of India in Chicago and an alumnus of IIT Kanpur, who called on alumni to transition their mindset from “Giving Back” to “Paying Back” to the institution.

Ghosh also highlighted the importance of strengthening collaborations between IIT Kanpur and U.S. universities.

Prominent alumni such as Dr. Ruchir Puri of IBM Research and Muktesh Pant, former CEO of Yum! China were part of the larger U.S. tour.

IIT Kanpur’s leadership, including Director Prof. Manindra Agrawal, also participated, sharing the institute’s recent achievements and strategic goals.

The event underscored the significance of alumni engagement, with local chapter leader Nitin Maheshwari expressing gratitude for the turnout and calling for increased involvement in future chapter activities.

"Our alumni are the backbone of our institute, and their achievements across the globe fill us with immense pride," stated Prof. Manindra Agrawal, Director of IIT Kanpur, highlighting the importance of alumni in shaping the institute's future.

The broader implications of the event reflect the growing importance of alumni networks in supporting institutional development, fostering collaboration, and enhancing the global presence of IIT Kanpur.

The Chicago gathering has reinvigorated the community’s commitment to staying engaged with the institute’s ongoing and future projects.
