Bakersfield, California – Members of the Sikh community commenced a 350-mile march from Bakersfield to Sacramento on October 9, 2024, organized by the Jakara Movement.

The "Fearless for Justice March" aims to raise awareness of the 1984 Sikh Genocide in India, with the journey set to last 23 days and conclude at the State Capitol on November 1.

The march honors the lives lost during the 1984 violence and calls for justice for those still at risk. Naindeep Singh, executive director of the Jakara Movement, highlighted the importance of educating the public and lawmakers along the route.

Notable supporters include Camila Chavez, daughter of United Farm Workers co-founder Dolores Huerta, and California Assemblymember Jasmeet Baines, who previously sponsored AJR 2, a resolution condemning the 1984 anti-Sikh violence as genocide.

As the march progresses through towns like McFarland and Delano, participants will engage with local communities to address the ongoing struggles of the Sikh community.
