Stamford, Connecticut — The Connecticut Chapter of the Global Organization of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO-CT) officially launched its 20th anniversary celebrations this month, marking two decades of community service and cultural pride since its 2006 founding. The organization held a planning meeting on January 24, 2026, followed by a Republic Day celebration that honored India's democratic heritage and outlined ambitious plans for recognizing outstanding community members.
The event began with GOPIO-CT forming a 20th Anniversary Celebration Committee, with Secretary Mirat Joshi appointed as chairman. She acknowledged the vision of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and the Constituent Assembly's thoughtful incorporation of elements from other constitutional traditions, including those of the United States and Ireland. The presentation sparked lively discussion between attendees and the distinguished speaker.
Over the past two decades, GOPIO-CT has established itself as one of GOPIO's most active chapters among more than 100 chapters worldwide. The organization has supported more than a dozen charitable organizations throughout Connecticut and sponsored significant fundraising efforts for the Bennett Cancer Center to assist cancer patients and their families.
