The 39-year-old Indian woman, Suchana Seth, is accused of murdering her 4-year-old Son. She served as the CEO of The Mindful AI Lab, an artificial intelligence startup in Bangalore. Following the tragic incident, she concealed her Son's body in her luggage after the alleged murder took place at the Sol Banyan Grande in Candolim, North Goa.

I frequently engage in meaningful discussions and friendly debates with my friend David Devassy, who hails from Kozhikode, Kerala. A few weeks ago, he shared a passage from his reading scripture. He read the following verse:

"Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you! See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are ever before me. Your children hasten back, and those who laid you waste depart from you."

And then I heard three news in three weeks where a mother killed her kids, and I just started thinking about what David shared for a minute.

Anyway, let's get to the point:

It's a heartbreaking and puzzling situation when someone as accomplished as Suchana Seth decides to commit such a horrific crime as allegedly taking her own Son's life.

The reasons behind such actions can be complex and remain unknown, deeply disturbing us all. Tragic events shock our understanding of human behavior and raise questions about what led to this terrible act.

Who is Suchana Seth, CEO of the AI Startup who allegedly killed her Son:

  • Seth's LinkedIn page shows that she was a fellow in AI ethics and a data scientist who studied at HarSond University's Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society.

  • Additionally, she served as a Ford-Mozilla Open Web Fellow at the Data & Society Research Institute in New York for five months.

  • At the time of the crime, she held the position of Founder and CEO at Mindful AI Lab, an artificial intelligence startup based in Bangalore.

  • The couple had initiated divorce proceedings in 2020 after a 10-year marriage. A court had granted Raman permission to visit his Son on Sundays.

Why Suchana Seth Killed Her Son:

  • Although the investigation is still in progress, some early evidence, including a police report and a handwritten note made with eyeliner on a tissue paper, suggest that Indian CEO Suchana Seth was divorced and faced frustration regarding child custody issues with her husband.

What Police Says:

  • While it's not officially confirmed, an initial police report and a sequence of events suggest that she administered a high dose of cough syrup to her Son and while he was asleep she used a towel or pillow to end his life.

  • Afterward, she attempted to place Son's body inside a luggage bag and eventually managed to conceal it within a suitcase.

What Suchana Seth Says:

According to Suchana Seth, she claimed that she did not kill her Son but rather was sleeping, and when she woke up, he was already deceased. She is not providing any further details, which adds complexity to the case, and we will have to wait until the investigation is over for more clarity.

How She Got Caught:

  • Son's hotel staff became suspicious when she insisted on traveling from Goa to Bangalore by taxi instead of taking a more convenient flight option. They attempted to suggest a flight, but she became increasingly agitated and began giving irrational reasons. Eventually, she left in a separate taxi.

  • When the hotel staff checked her room, they discovered some bloodstains, which might have been a result of her struggle to fit the body into the luggage bag.

  • The hotel staff promptly called the Goa police, who initiated an operation and successfully apprehended her.

What Next

  • After her initial six-day remand expired Monday, the police presented Suchana Seth in Goa Children's Court.

  • According to a report by Hindustan Times, an unnamed senior police officer informed PTI that Seth was not cooperating with the investigators.

  • The Calangute Police requested an extension of her custody, stating that their investigation is ongoing and Seth will remain in remand for some more time.

May the soul of Precious Boy Rest in peace!
